Hoisin Beef Noodles

My son brought this recipe home after making it in his middle-school cooking class. It’s been an easy weeknight favorite every since.

  • ⏲️ Prep time: 10 min
  • 🍳 Cook time: 20 min
  • 🍽️ Servings: 2-3 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 454g (1 pound) ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups of finely shredded coleslaw mix (or grate cabbage and carrots)
  • 250g (9oz) broad egg noodles
  • 2 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 Tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup finely sliced green onion
  • toasted sesame seeds

Directions

  1. Boil some salted water in a large pot and cook the egg noodles following package directions. Drain, rinse, and set aside.
  2. Warm a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the neutral oil and sesame oil.
  3. Add the ground beef. Cook and chop with a spatula until browned. Spread the beef into a flat layer in the frying pan and let it sit until it starts to char slightly. You want the smell of grilled hamburger.
  4. Add coleslaw to the frying pan and stir until wilted. Add minced garlic and stir for about 30 seconds. Turn the heat down to low.
  5. Add the cooked noodles to the pan, followed by the oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, and white vinegar. Stir to combine and remove from heat.
  6. Serve hot with sliced green onion and toasted sesame seeds as garnish.
