Shredded BBQ Tofu

Grated tofu is baked until crispy and then rehydrated with barbeque sauce to make a versatile crumbled protein that works great in wraps or salads.

Ingredients

  • 450g of firm or extra-firm tofu, pressed
  • 1 Tbsp canola oil
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup barbeque sauce
  • 1/4 cup water

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grate the block of tofu into shreds. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.
  3. In a small bowl mix the oil, soy sauce, and spices. Toss the seasoning mixture with the tofu shreds until they are well-coated, then transfer to a sheet pan.
  4. Bake the tofu for 20-30 minutes until it becomes dehydrated brown crumbles.
  5. Heat the barbeque sauce and water in a shallow pan. Add the shredded tofu and stir as it absorbs the liquids.
